Kevin Durant Ties Jordan’s Mark
Kevin Durant has transformed right before our eyes. He came into the league a lanky skinny kid and has grown into the Man of All Men in the NBA. Durant, in a loss to the Houston Rockets Friday night, scored 28 points. Ho-hum right? Wrong! That was Kevin Durant’s 40th game with at least 25 or more points. A streak so impressive only one other person in the past 50 years had accomplished it, and that person is Micheal Jordan who some believe to be the best baller in the game… ever.
Durant who had long been considered number two as the NBA’s top dog behind LeBron James has certainly passed by him for top honors this years. Durant had been the favorite for the MVP award this season and this impressive streak just puts the icing on the cake.
Even his teammates are impressed, fellow running mate Russell Westbrook put it nicely,
“That’s a lot of games to be scoring 25 points in a row. You can’t just not think about that. That’s an unbelievable stat. I think he may just finish the season doing that. He does that in his sleep.”
Twenty five points isn’t a whole lot when your averaging 31 a game but to do it for 40 straight game is mind boggling and like Westbrook said, who knows how long this streak will continue. Even Larry Bird, who is considered one of the greatest Forward to ever play, hadn’t come close to a steak like this.
The amazing thing is do we really even know if KD has reached his peak? At only 25 years of age right now Durant is still growing into his body and evolving his post game, if he’s this good now, it’s scary to imagine how great he could be in a few years
